Berlin Declaration on Transforming TourismTourism Concern joined over 30 participants, from civil society organisations from 19 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, in Berlin over the weekend to discuss how tourism could be improved, especially as this is the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

All participants are committed to achieve the vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of a just, inclusive and equal world. Not only was the event a great opportunity to understand the challenges and issues faced by colleagues around the world, but the group also collectively drafted the Berlin Declaration on Transforming Tourism.

The declaration includes some reflections on the 2030 Agenda, current trends in tourism and a number of recommendations for international bodies, governments industry and travellers. The declaration also includes three core principles:

3.1 Human rights and self-determination of communities must be at the core of every tourism development. This includes the right to meaningful participation and consultation including free, prior and informed consent on whether, to what extent and in what form tourism takes place.
3.2 If tourism is developed, it needs to seek a widespread and fair distribution of economic and social benefits throughout the recipient communities, including improving local prosperity, quality of life and social equity.
3.3 Tourism should be a positive and beneficial experience for travellers and hosts alike in order to act as a force for mutual understanding, empathy and respect.

The group, which includes some of the worlds leading tourism campaigners, professionals and practitioners, were concerned that the current dominant tourism model is not able to support the necessary transformation of the world envisaged by the 2030 Agenda. On the contrary, in too many cases it is exploiting people, harming communities, violating human rights and degrading the environment.

We believe that transforming our world is not possible without transforming tourism. With this declaration we want not only to encourage further reflection and debate, but demand concrete activities and actions.

The declaration was presented at ITB, the worlds leading travel trade show, on 8th March 2017.

02) 13. Hafta (13 Mayıs) için response paper normalde "Show me a Hero" dizisi üzerineydi. Bunu verdiğim linklerin çalışmadığını fark ettiğim için kaldırdım. Yerine bir makale koydum. Response paper'i bu makale üzerine yazacaksınız. Daha önceki duyurumu dikkate alıp diziyi seyretmiş ve response paper'i bunun üzerine yazmak isteyenler varsa bunu yapabilir bu opsiyon hala geçerli. 

03) Mazeret ile ilgili... öncelikle sunuşu olup gelemeyenler için mazeret yok demiştik... bu hala geçerli ama vize sınavları için geçerli olan türden raporu olanlar için mazeret yapabiliriz. belge ile ispat etmeleleri durumunda...

04) Gene 15. haftaki mazeret ile ilgili... Bu mazerete quizlerden ya da response paperlardan eksikleri olan herkes katılabilir. quiz eksiği olanlar için bir mazeret quizi yapılacak ve aldıkları not eksik quiz notlarından biri yerine yazılacak. response eksiği olanlar, eksik olan bir response paper'ini derse getirebilir ve gene buradan aldıkları not eksik haftaya yazılır. Sadece birer quiz ve response paper eksiği için mazerete girebilirsiniz. Hem quiz, hem response paper'iniz eksikse mazerete her ikisi için de girebilirsiniz.

FORMAT

1. response paperlar web'de (draft programme) ilan edilen tarihte derste teslim edilir. Dersten sonra teslim edilen ödevler değerlendirmeye alınmaz. (bir response paper'ı mazerette getirme hakkınız var)
2. response paper İngilizce yazılacak.
3. Bir A4'ün tek yüzünü geçmeyecek uzunlukta olacak.
4. Minimum 200 kelime olacak. 
5. Calibri fontu kullanılacak ve yazılar 13 punto olacak.
6. Yazılar iki yana yaslanacak.
7. Paragraf aralarında bir satır boşluğu bırakılacak.
8. Word'de Üst Bilgi/Header kısmına makale başlığı büyük harflerle ve bold ve ortalanacak şekilde yazılacak.
9. Word'de Alt Bilgi/Footer kısmına sağ alt tarafa hizalanmış şekilde sizin isminiz ve soyadız yazılacak.

not: Teslim edilen response paperlar notlanırken yukarıda listelenen şekilsel maddelere uyulmaması durumunda puan kırılacak.  İngilizce yazılmayan makaleler değerlendirmeye alınmayacak.

(draft program içinde ilgili haftada). ilk quiz'deki kelimeler ve ek yeni kelimeler var içinde. bundan sonraki quizler önceki kelime setleri üzerine eklenerek hazırlanacak. sınav gününden önceki derse kadar yeni kelime eklenebilir (bundan sonraki tüm quizler için geçerli bu). quizlet dosyası da son hali verildikten sonra eklenecek.

sunum akışı ve formatı:

• ilk slayt: makale başlığı ve ilgili bir görsel yer almalı
• ikinci slayt: makalede anlatılan temel meseleyi özetleyin. 
• ara slaytlar: serbestsiniz. makaleyi en iyi, anlaşılır, keyifli bir şekilde nasıl sunacağınızı düşünüyorsanız öyle sunun. dilediğiniz kadar görsel/işitsel malzemeden faydalanabilirsiniz. 
• sondan bir önceki slayt: sunum ne hakkındaydı ve biz bu sunumdan ne öğrendik... örnek: sunum berlindeki anti-gentrification yasası hakkındaydı. yasanın tek başına yeterli olmadığını, arkasında politik bir irade olmadığı zaman işlemediğini öğrendik. 
• son slayt: makaleyi özgün bir yorum katın: kritik edin, makale üzerine kendi yorumunuzu yapın, makaleyi güncel süreçlerle, bu derste ya da başka derslerde karşılaştığınız kavramlarla, yaşadığınız bir deneyimle vs. ilişkilendirin.

8. aktarım net mi? yazarın aktarmak istediği temel konu net ve akılda kalıcı bir şekilde aktarılmış mı?
9. özgün katkı var mı? makaleye kritik getirmiş, kendinden bir yorum katmış ya da başka konularla ilişkilendirmiş mi?

sunuşları yukarıdaki soruların yer aldığı bir google form üzerinden değerlendireceğim. çıkan skorun 100'lük sistemdeki karşılığı sunuş notunu oluşturacak. Forma şu LİNK'i TIKLAYARAK göz atabilirsiniz (dilerseniz siz de sunuşların ardından formu doldurabilirsiniz (sayılmayacak)). 

not: Sunum süresi 15 dakikadır. Sunumlar İngilizce yapılacaktır. Sunuşların ders içerisindeki ağırlığı 10 puandan 15 puana çıkarılmıştır... (PSIS üzerinden güncel ağırlıklara göz atabilirsiniz).

iletişim bilgilerinizi ŞU LİNKİ TIKLADIĞINIZDA karşınıza çıkan 3 soruluk forma giriniz... iletişim bilgilerini girmeyen ya da yanlış giren öğrenciler, dersin ilerleyen haftalarında kendilerine bilgilendirme yapılması gerektiği durumlarda bu bilgilendirmeden mahrum kalacaklar... 

About ROC

ROC (SBP2852 Readings on Cities / Kent Okumaları) bases on reading, discussing and reflecting on articles/papers on processes taking place in cities, with a special focus on those related with urban transformation and gentrification. 

Language
The language of the course is bad English. During the course, all the presentations and discussions will be made in bad English. The assignments will also be written in bad English.

Attendance and other Responsibilities of the Students
No attendance will be taken during the course and there will be no mid-term exams. However there will be assignments (response papers, article presentations) or small quizzes every week. Participation to the discussions is important and will be appreciated: those who participate to the discussions will be given bonus points. The class starts at 11:00. Students are expected to be at class before 11.00. There will be a break between 11:45 and 12:00. The course ends at 12:45. 

Article Presentations
Each student will be presenting an article during the course. Details are given in the 'how to present an article' link (check the link on the right side of the blog). Students can also check the date of their presentations and the articles they will be presenting on the online draft programme (check 'draft program' link on the right side of the blog). Each student is supposed to present his/her article on the date announced on the online programme. Those who don't present on time won't havr another chance to present.

Response Papers
Response papers will be discussed in class in the week following the submission of the assignment. Detailed information is given in another post (check the link on the right side of the blog).

Vocabulary Quizzes
The vocabulary quizzes will be based on the vocabulary sets that will be published on draft programme page for relevant week. Students are required to check the website to download these vocabulary sets. The vocabulary tests start at 11:00 and last about 2 minutes.

PSIS / Grading
The points/grades given to the assignments and quizzes and presentations will be declared online on PSIS (the online grading system of the course) link on the website (check the link on the right side of the blog). The final exam will cover 30 points and rest (70 points) will be completed by the assignments and quizzes during the semester (the weight of each assignment and quiz is declared on the top row of PSIS). The grading system bases both on content and format (details about the format for each assignment will be given in the relevant posts). 

Compensation Exam
There will be a compensation exam on week 15, for students who failed to complete all the assignments or take all the quizzes during the course. The complementary exam will cover one missing assignment and one quiz. Details will be given at the end of the semester. There will be no compensation for the article presentations.
